Thank you for visiting River Valley Swissies! My name is Chris Haak. My husband and I live in the southeastern part of South Dakota, just outside of Sioux Falls where we raised 5 kids and currently have two granddaughters. I recently retired after 35 years as a pediatric occupational therapist. Dogs have always been a significant part of my life and we have had many beautiful dogs over the years to include purebred and also mixed breeds. In my life before kids, I was involved in training and showing and at that time had a Rottweiler named Doozer (CH Ponca’s Dakota Doozy). I proudly owner handled him for the majority of his points to include a 5 point major. Doozer unfortunately developed health issues when he was 5 years old and sadly passed away. I had always dreamed of showing and training dogs again and retirement seemed like the perfect opportunity to start. I had always been interested in the GSMD since 1995 when they were officially accepted by the AKC into the working group.

We currently have a beautiful greater Swiss mountain Dog named Lola. She is an AKC champion and also has her novice scent work titles in container and exterior. Lola has an exceptional temperament. She can be very relaxed and enjoys lounging at home but is always excited to go for a walk, play obedience or practice scent work. She adores our two granddaughters and takes her job as being their best friend very seriously.

She is my pride and joy and I’m grateful to her breeder and my mentor, Sandra Strait with Remington’s Pride Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, for trusting me and guiding me through this journey.
